Second time ever recording video with my Nikon D500.

Hardware:
Nikon D500
Lens AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G at 17mm
Microphone Rode Stereo VideoMic X
Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod
Manfrotto 498RC2 Midi ball head (Not the best then panning.)

Settings:
DX
1920×1280 25p
Normal video quality
Manual mode
1/50s
F3,2
ISO 250 (could be little more I guess)
WB daylight
Picture control Standard
D-Lightning Normal
Nikon volume 2
Rode Stereo VideoMic X at 0dB

The only parameter I couldn’t change was the location. That was already chosen by my family.

Made this video mostly because I wanted to test the external Rode microphone. Made some research in advance what camera and microphone settings to use during fireworks. The day before the fireworks I put my Peltor earmuffs on, raised the audio level on my Marantz receiver to very loud and played Howie Alex great fireworks video “Night Lights” to set the volume on Nikon and Rode. Set Nikon volume to 4.

After the first bang in the beginning of New Year’s Eve fireworks I lowered Nikon volume from 4 to 2 afraid that it was going to be louder in the end and I had chosen too high volume. Afterwards I do not think I had to lower it. Think 4 had been OK. Next time I will raise ISO, raise fps and volume to 3.
